about me portrait update.jpg

HELLO!

My name is Kaylei McGaw and I’m a prop stylist. I build spaces and create ‘little worlds’ for commercial and editorial projects. I collaborate with photographers, art directors, designers, artists, and architects to bring beautiful content to life for marketing campaigns, editorial publications, brand portfolios, look books and more. I love creating visuals that tell great stories.

My path to Prop Styling began with a degree in apparel and textile design, followed by working for fashion stylists in New York City. From there I landed a job as an editor for an interior design magazine where I began assisting on photo shoots. It was during my time as an editor that I realized I wanted to be on set as much as possible- behind the scenes of photo and video making. I began pursuing prop styling full time. I started my freelance career styling interior spaces, later expanding to product styling, editorial spreads, and propping for food and beverage shoots. In 2016 I moved from New York to Melbourne, Australia to write and teach a prop styling class at Mercer School of Design. When I returned to the States I moved to New England and began building Kaylei McGaw Creative.

I gather my materials, paint, build, sketch, and prep all my props in a sunny studio twenty miles west of Boston. I am fueled by my curiousity and love to collaborate with fun creative humans! When I’m not at the studio I’m likely to be found “treasure hunting” in antique shops or flea markets, or traveling with family and friends.
